My journey in clay started by making functional pottery; bowls, plates and casserole dishes. After about 15 years of of making the same forms I began to get a little burned out. I still loved the medium of clay but repeating the same forms over and over was getting a little monotonous at times.
The next phase, and the one I am currently working on is sculptural forms making people out of clay, especially women. We had our spring exhibit back in 2013 at the Orchard Gallery, where I am a member, titled “Art Becomes Her” and ever since then I have been focused on “her”. This exhibit inspired me to change my direction from functional pottery to sculptural clay and ended up renewing my interest and love for creating.
Art has always been a passion for me so I try to attend workshops when I can and enter art exhibits that relate to my media.
I currently sell my work at various art fairs throughout the year, including the Artist Studio Tour, at the Orchard Gallery in Fort Wayne, and through my Etsy site.
My love for ceramics started when I was in high school and took my first ceramic class, then later in life when I returned to school after raising my four children. I attended IPFW where I earned a BFA from Indiana University.
