Hello! Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me!
My art began as a weaver, weaving colorful baskets and sculptures.
My next exploration was into encaustic (painting with beeswax and damar resin) which I continue joyfully. This is an ancient medium going back a couple thousand years. Applying many layers of wax and scraping back can bring beautiful results! The luminosity and history that can be created are amazing. I enjoy teaching this medium in my home studio.
However, there are times when I just didn’t have enough creative time to allow the wax to melt ( I can be quite impatient at times ) so I took a side detour into acrylic painting and have enjoyed that as well.
I am an abstract painter.
You can view my work at the Artist Studio Tour, and at the Orchard Gallery of Fine Art. You can also find me at outdoor festivals and doing solo shows at other galleries in the area.
My studio is always open to see my entire body of work by appointment. You may contact me via my website www.ruthkoomlerart.com to arrange a visit, sign up for workshops or just to stay up to date on my happenings!
I hope to meet you soon!
My creative life began in childhood but took a serious turn once our children were grown and time allowed. I attended IPFW for Interior Design and that has played well with my art.
