The Value of a Christ-Centered Education

It takes time to study and put in the hours needed to produce positive results. It takes involvement from friends, mentors, and family members to stretch and grow students. And it takes resources to ensure you have the ability to begin and complete a program.

Let us show you how your educational investment will pay off, both for your career and your calling.

How to Apply

It is a simple 2-step process to apply for aid:

  1. First, all students requesting federal and state aid must complete the Free Application of Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students who are non-citizens of the United States may be eligible to receive aid from the State of Texas by completing the Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA) found at College for All Texans.
  2. Next, complete the Texas Residency Determination Form and any additional DBU forms found at MyDBU if advised by the Office of Financial Aid at DBU.

For step-by-step instructions on completing the FAFSA, view this short video.

Cost of Attendance Adjustment Categories

Cost of attendance may also include other expenses like an allowance for the rental or purchase of a personal computer, costs related to a disability, or costs for eligible study-abroad programs. These specific costs may be considered as an adjustment to your cost of attendance. You must be able to justify and document these costs and submit it with your Change In Circumstances request.

Computer Ownership

According to federal regulations, a student may request that the expense of a PC be added to their Cost of Attendance. This addition can occur once per degree program (once for undergraduate studies and once for advanced degree graduate studies). The purchase must have occurred no earlier than 90 days prior to the request. Appeals must be submitted no later than 45 days before the end of the semester for which the appeal is intended. The cost of the PC (including printer and software) cannot exceed $2,500 unless the student’s academic unit sends documentation supporting the student’s need for equipment that warrants additional costs.

  1. The student must provide a paid store receipt documenting the actual cost of the PC and submit it with their Change In Circumstances request.
  2. DBU scholarships and grants are not available to cover the cost of a computer. Students may apply for federal or alternative educational loan funds. Students should consult with the Office of Financial Aid to find out about loan eligibility.

Disability Related Expenses

If you have a disability, an allowance may be considered for those expenses related to the disability, including special services, transportation, equipment, and/or supplies that are reasonable and required for the pursuit of an eligible program of study and not provided by other assisting agencies.

Child or Dependent Care

Childcare and/or dependent care expenses incurred to care for a child or other dependent may be allowed as an addition to the Cost of Attendance. If the student or the student's family pays for dependent care by a provider, the cost of attendance for the actual costs incurred (to a maximum of $600 per semester) are considered, and documentation must be provided.

Health Insurance

Some students may be required to pay for their own individual health insurance costs. On a case-by-case basis, our office will consider written requests for a Cost of Attendance increase.

Study Abroad

Reasonable costs associated with a study abroad program sponsored by Dallas Baptist University may be considered in the Cost of Attendance.
